Weekend Betting Tips
Vannes v Laval
Vannes are still fighting against relegation, but 10 points from the last 12 mean that survival is now in their own hands. Consecutive home victories against Istres and Dijon mean that confidence should be high, and victory would virtually guarantee their safety. Their final game is away to 4th placed Metz, so they will be keen to secure the points here tonight.
Laval recorded their first win in 8 games against league leaders, Caen, last time out. They have had a solid season and find themselves comfortably in mid-table. However, their away record isn’t great, with only 4 wins from 18 games, and they will have nothing to really play for other than pride in this game.
Vannes need the points more than their opponents, and have found a little bit of form recently. They can virtually guarantee safety with 3 points tonight against a Laval team who are simply playing the season out now.
Bet: Vannes -0.5AH @ 2.06
Final Result: Vannes 2 - 3 Laval
Auxerre v Lens
Auxerre have had an excellent season and lie in 3rd place in the league. They suffered a disappointing defeat against Lyon last time out, having taken the lead. However, this was only their second defeat in 20 games. They have been solid at home, losing only 3 of their 18 games, conceding only 14 goals in the process. However, they have only scored 24 and have ground out a lot of 1-0 victories this season.
Lens were unlucky not to win midweek. They saved a penalty, and the goal they conceded took a massive deflection. They lie in 14th place in the league, but are safe and content to play out the season. They have only won 1 of their last 12 away from home, but have only conceded more than 1 goal on one occasion in that sequence.
Auxerre should win this considering they are still pushing for a Champions League position, but they rarely win comfortably, so the handicap offers decent value.
Bet: Lens +1.25AH @ 2.01
Final Result: Auxerre 0 - 0 Lens
Hertha Berlin v Bayern Munich
Hertha Berlin have already been relegated, and if they don’t win here, they will set a new record for home games without a win. They have only picked up 9 points from a possible 48 this season and are already preparing for next season. They were beaten 5-2 against Bayern earlier in the season.
Bayern have already secured the title, and have two massive cup finals coming up in the next 2 weeks. Even so, Louis van Gaal has said that he will be playing a full strength team here as he doesn’t want them to have too long a break between games. Even with nothing to play for, Bayern should have enough quality to overcome Hertha, despite the fact that players will be trying to avoid any injuries.
Whilst there is nothing to play for, Bayern should have too much for Hertha, although if van Gaal decides to rest a few players, they may have a chance.
Bet: FC Bayern to win @ 1.91
Final Result: Hertha Berlin 1 - 3 FC Bayern Munich
Sporting Gijon v Atletico Madrid
Sporting Gijon know that victory tomorrow would secure their place in the top division for next season. They have gone 10 games without a victory, but played excellently to pick up a point last time out away to 6th placed Getafe. They have won 2 of their last 6 games at home, and will fancy their chances in this match.
Atletico Madrid have gone 9 games without a win away from home in the league and have the Europa League final against Fulham next week. As a result, they are expected to play a reserve side, who will be keen to make a statement, but it is questionable if they have the quality.
Sporting will fancy their chances to secure survival tomorrow against an under-strength Atletico side who will have their eye on Wednesday’s final against Fulham.
Bet: Sporting -0.5AH @ 1.72
Final Result: Sporting Gijon 1 - 1 Atletico Madrid
Inter Milan v Chievo
Inter are 2 points clear of Roma at the top of Serie A and know that victories in their two remaining games will secure the title. They have scored 38 goals in their 18 home games this season and will be hoping to finish off Chievo at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Chievo have the second best defence in the division after Inter, particularly away from home where they have conceded only 17 goals in 18 games. They narrowly lost 1-0 against Inter back in January, and will be hoping to limit the damage here. They play very defensively away from home and are difficult to break down.
Inter should win, but it will be difficult to score many goals against the strongest defence away from home this year.
Bet: Chievo +2.25AH @ 1.81
Final Result: Inter Milan 4 - 3 Chievo
Palermo v Sampdoria
Palermo are unbeaten at home this season, and go into this virtual Champions League playoff knowing that a win would put their destiny in their own hands. Bovo is missing, which is a big blow, but Miccoli has been in excellent form this year.
Sampdoria currently hold 4th place, but their goal-scoring record away from home this year is poor, having scored only 17 goals in 18 games. They have recorded impressive wins against both AC Milan and Roma in recent weeks, but should have been finished off in both those games, before coming back to win.
Palermo are unbeaten at home and should continue that. They also know that nothing less than a win will do if they are to seal 4th place.
Bet: Palermo to win @ 2.02
Final Result: Palermo 1 - 1 Sampdoria
Exeter v Huddersfield
This is an intriguing contest, as Exeter need the win to ensure survival, whilst Huddersfield know that they are still in with a shout for automatic promotion if results go their way.
Exeter have given themselves a chance, having not lost in six games at home, and only 1 defeat in 12 games in the league. However, they have been drawing too many games, not having won in six games, and they know that Tranmere below them are likely to win against bottom side Stockport. Therefore, they need to win this game to guarantee their position in the division for next year.
Huddersfield still have an outside chance of automatic promotion, but they need other results to go their way, and win this by six goals or more. As unlikely a scenario as this sounds, they are optimistic, and having hit six last away game against Stockport, confidence is high. They have only lost once in the last 9 games, and have won four on the bounce to keep them in with a shout.
Even if they don’t secure automatic promotion, Huddersfield will be looking to move up a couple of places to ensure a home second leg of the playoffs. Exeter need to win, but they are fighting relegation for a reason, and so I fancy Huddersfield to grab a result. If results are going against Huddersfield, they may ease off, but hopefully they may have enough motivation to go on to win the game.
Bet: Huddersfield to win @ 2.8
Final Result: Exeter 2 - 1 Huddersfield
